Funding & Schedule

Fixed Guideway – The Santa Ana-Garden Grove Fixed Guideway study is funded by the Orange County Transportation Authority’s (OCTA’s) Go Local Program, which seeks to improve connectivity to the regional Metrolink commuter rail system. Construction is anticipated to be funded through a combination of local, state and federal funding sources, including Renewed Measure M -- Orange County's local half-cent sales tax for transportation projects. The project may be built in two phases based on funding availability.

The project team is preparing environmental studies and conceptual engineering plans to identify the benefits and impacts of various technologies (modes of transportation) and alignments (routes.) The draft environmental document is required to meet federal (NEPA) and state (CEQA) requirements and is estimated to be released in early 2013. A Locally Preferred Alternative will be selected shortly thereafter, clearing the way for detailed engineering to get underway by fall 2013. According to the current schedule, the fixed guideway system would be under construction by summer 2015 and opening day would occur in late fall 2017.

Fixed Guideway Timeline

SARTC Expansion – The City of Santa Ana is working with other agencies to secure funding for final design and construction of the proposed SARTC improvements.
